Christian Ethos

At Swannington CofE Primary School, being a Church of England school means we aim for every member of our school community to feel valued, respected, and included. We believe in treating everyone fairly, fostering a fully inclusive environment, and nurturing a strong sense of belonging for all.

Together, staff, parents, and governors have shaped our School Values and Vision, guiding how we live and learn as a Christian school community. Our key aims are:

  • Creating a positive learning environment where every child can thrive and flourish

  • Fostering a sense of belonging and building strong, respectful relationships

  • Encouraging curiosity and enjoyment of learning through nurturing positive attitudes

  • Developing caring, respectful young people who value themselves and others

  • Promoting a culture of success for all, where forgiveness, kindness, and understanding are central

Our Christian ethos is at the heart of everything we do, ensuring children grow academically, socially, and spiritually in a supportive and inspiring environment.

Our school vision underpins all our work:

At Swannington CofE Primary School, our core values are Friendship, Enjoyment, Respect, and Forgiveness. Guided by the love of God, we welcome and celebrate all children, staff, and families, regardless of faith or belief. These Christian values create a supportive and inclusive environment where every member of our school community can flourish and succeed.

Collective Worship is a central part of our school day, providing time for the whole school community to come together, reflect, and connect with their own inner peace. Through daily acts of worship, children engage with our distinctively Christian values while also appreciating the wider Christian tradition.

We believe Collective Worship should be meaningful and inspiring, promoting spiritual growth, reflection, and prayer. It is a special time that differs from the rest of the school day, offering communal celebration, reflection, and the opportunity to think differently. Pupils are actively encouraged to plan and participate in worship, helping make it an inclusive and engaging experience.

Our school follows an annual calendar of themes linked to the Christian Calendar, giving children opportunities to explore the richness of Christian tradition throughout the year.

Pupils can also join our Christian Ethos Team, taking on leadership roles to promote our values. This year, as part of the Christian value of Generosity, the team has chosen to support the local charity Bright Hope, helping children learn the importance of giving and caring for others.
